This photo presents 3 examples of pendants that are based on a spiculum shape. For some time I am experimenting with this form. If you are not sure what a spiculum is than go ahead a read the following explanations.
The free dictionary defines speculum as follows: spiculum - small pointed structure serving as a skeletal element in various marine and freshwater invertebrates e.g. sponges and corals.
Metal smith Andy Cooperman explains
A spiculum is a hollow cylinder-- a tube-- that is
tapered, usually to a point, on either end. Sort of a marquis or
bean pod shape. It is most often formed from sheet, using cross peen
hammers and a grooved work surface to roll up or coax the metal into
form.
